At the very beginning, you need to know that there is no way to turn off Apple TV, but your device may be in sleep mode instead. Depending on your Apple TV generation, the way to turn your device into sleep mode may be different. If you have the latest Apple TV with Siri Remote 2nd Gen you should follow this instruction. To set your TV box in sleep mode, press and hold the power button (on the top of your remote) until your device turns into sleep mode and your TV turns off.
If you have older Apple TV with Siri Remote 1st Gen or earlier you should follow this instruction. To set your TV box in sleep mode, press and hold the TV button (on the top of your remote) until the Control Center menu appears on the screen. If you don’t see a Control Center pop up on the right side of your screen, press the TV button once. Then wait for a moment and press and hold the TV button for 3 seconds again. In this menu, you will see a highlighted Sleep button. To turn your device into sleep mode click on this button.
You can also turn off your Apple TV using a software switch built into the system settings. To use it, open the Settings, and scroll down to the very bottom of the list, and tap on the last option “Sleep Now” to turn your device into sleep mode.
Note: To turn off your Apple TV you have to switch off the power supply.
